Recognition supports Raleigh real estate company’s continued strength and leadership in off-campus housing sector

RALEIGH, NC – January 17, 2012 – For the second consecutive year, The Preiss Company has been recognized by Student Housing Business magazine as one of the nation’s Top 25 Owners of Student Housing. The Raleigh real estate company was ranked 8th—5th amongst privately-owned companies—based on number of beds owned/managed which currently stands at 15,000.

The November/December 2011 issue of Student Housing Business, now on its way to subscribers, ranks the top 25 owners and managers of student housing. The annual listing again lists the companies who own and manage the largest number of beds in the industry. The surveys were conducted in the fall, with respondents requested to complete the survey with data accurate as of October 31, 2011.

Founded in 1987, The Preiss Company specializes in the development, acquisition, and management of off-campus student housing. The company currently operates in eight states—North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Maryland, Illinois, Texas, and Pennsylvania—and in 11 markets. The Preiss Company has had nearly $130 million in acquisition and development in the past 12 months and has experienced 30% growth in the past two years. The company is poised to do the same or better in 2012.

Company Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Donna Preiss, is proud of her repeated inclusion in Student Housing Business’ recent list and says that The Preiss Company continues to redefine the student housing market by setting the “gold” standard of off-campus housing.

“The Preiss Company continues to lead the industry in the development of new technologies, tools, and strategies for the student housing industry,” says Preiss. “We’ve recently added mobile versions of our property websites and all of our websites can now be translated into any language with the click of a button.”

Preiss says that students are now demanding higher bandwidth, wireless access, and total reliability and that these expectations are playing a big part in the leasing decision making process.

“Many of our residents’ courses are online and require fast and dependable connectivity,” adds Preiss. “We are starting to see high-speed connectivity as the number one amenity that students are looking at when making their leasing decisions. To remain a leader in the industry, The Preiss Company will continue to provide connectivity solutions that not only meet current needs, but can adapt to handle ever increasing demands.”

The Preiss Company has also been recognized by Triangle Business Journal as one of the Triangle’s Top Apartment Property Management Companies. The list ranks companies by the number of units managed in the Triangle. The company has appeared on the list four times over the last five years. Preiss herself was recently recognized by Business Leader magazine as a Top 50 Entrepreneur.
