Position will oversee and manage overall leasing and marketing efforts of three corporate housing portfolios 


RALEIGH, NC – August 2, 2010 – The Preiss Company (“TPCO”), specializing in the development, acquisition, and management of off-campus student housing, has announced the appointment of Dan Soyka to Regional Manager. In his role, Soyka will manage three properties in Austin, Texas and three in Auburn, Alabama. He will soon manage a property in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania combining to total over 5,800 beds in his portfolio. In addition, Soyka will assist in the development of new student housing projects in various locations. 

Prior to joining TPCO, Soyka worked as a Development Manager for Inland American Communities from December 2007 through January 2010 and was responsible for sourcing, underwriting, and executing student housing, conventional multi-family, and mixed-use developments throughout the eastern United States. He also directed all aspects of the development of an $80MM student housing development in Orlando, Florida, including hiring of all consultants, all aspects of design, a two-year entitlement process and the solicitation of debt financing.

In 2005, he joined University Partners/First Worthing as Regional Director of Operations, where he successfully operated a portfolio of 3,800+ beds at seven off-campus student housing properties in Louisiana, Alabama, North Carolina, and Maryland. From 2002-2005, Soyka served as an Area Community Manager with Steven D. Bell & Co. in Atlanta, Georgia where he had the distinction of earning five promotions in twenty months—ascending from Regional Leasing Specialist to Area Manager. He also improved the financial position of a variable portfolio of underperforming multifamily properties, increasing total revenue by as much as 13% from quarter to quarter, as well as succeeded in turning around the operations of 12 multifamily properties in five states. 

As Regional Manager for TPCO, Soyka is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the student housing beds that make up the Alabama, Texas, and Pennsylvania portfolios. He is also accountable for the financial performance of these properties. Both the Alabama and Texas properties have been featured in online news outlets for their industry and community achievements. 

Last year, University Estates at Austin was chosen as one of three student housing properties to participate in the National Multi Housing Council (NMHC) property tours, which were held in conjunction with the 7th NMHC Student Housing Conference. In addition, the company’s Auburn property recently partnered with LifeSouth Community Blood Centers to host its second blood drive at the property’s clubhouse. Soyka says that he’s proud to be working with so many dedicated team members that continue to define their properties as leaders in their area, as well as make a positive difference in their community.

Soyka earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida and is a licensed real estate agent. While in Atlanta, he was involved in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and is an active member of the Urban Land Institute as a Young Leader. He is also involved in the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) as a CPM®.
